Part 1 - First Posting - What is Qualitative Research? (4 pts)
  • Locate and read, from any professional conference, journal, article, online source, that pertains to what is qualitative research.
  • Write a two paragraph review for the article. The 1st paragraph should describe the contents of the article. The 2nd paragraph should be your reaction to the article. Do not forget to include the reference cite. Use APA format.
  • Reply to at least two postings in a meaningful manner.

Part 3 - Third Posting - Qualitative Research Studies (7 pts)

Guide for Summarizing a Qualitative Study

Reference: APA format

Purpose of Study: Why was the study conducted or done ?

Research Question(s): Concise statement of the underlying research question that is driving the qualitative research.

Method: What qualitative method(s) is being used in the research. If mixed method, you will need to cover both quantitative and qualitative methods.

Research Setting: What was the setting of the research.

Participants : If they used people, describe the participants in the study. Touch on selection if relevant.

Data Collection: Describe the methods of data collection.

Data Analysis: Describe the data analysis procedures.

Study Report: Describe the type of study report.

Rigor and Trustworthiness: How did the study produce and maintain its rigor and trustworthiness during the research?

Results: What were the results reported. Be concise.

Comments: This should be a statement relating study to other studies, citing why you thought it important or interesting, or any other information of use to you as you review summary at a later time.

Notes:

  1. Entire summary should fit on a single sheet - one side.
  2. Be concise. Draw pictures. Don't just copy statements. Abbreviate but don't lose meaning.
  3. Summarize study for your purposes, not authors'.
  4. Remember this is a summary, not critique. Try to represent exactly what happened and how.
