Re-opened: 1792 & 1836
the Phoenix, La Fenice, has risen from the ashes of fires to regain
its position as a leading venue for works by composers of every musical
period. Verdi saw the first performances of many of his operas there.
Twenty-nine architectural plans were submitted for the re-building following the first fire.
|Following the second fire in 1836 a nearby restaurant mounted a drive for community support in re-building the house. Only the exterior walls survived the fire.||
