Assignment #1

Part a.
Description:
Conduct an electronic search of the UNT card catalogue and CD-ROM system to look for a textbook, proceedings publication(s), or collection of articles you think might be appropriate for use in this course (current textbooks are not elgible).

Turn In:
1. E-mail message of book being reviewed sent electronically to your instructor.
2. Photocopy of editorial page and table of contents of work.
3. One page critique including:
a) bibliographic citation
b) description of book contents
c) good points/bad points/your evaluation.

Due Date: Friday June 13 at the beginning of class.
Value: 5 points
Part b.
Description:
Send an introductory e-mail message to yourself, your instructor gknezek@jove.acs.unt.edu and one fellow classmate using your unix system account.

Turn In:
1. Paper printouts of message noting who message was sent to.
2. Electronic copy mailed to fellow classmate.
3. Electronic copy also mailed to instructor.

Due Date: Friday June 13, at the beginning of class.
Value: 5 points


Assignment #2

Description:
Use a word processor to prepare a paragraph about some question related to educational telecommunications you hope might be answered in this class. FAX a copy to your instructor (817) 565-2185 plus upload the document as a text file to your instructor gknezek@jove.acs.unt.edu and to the email list "class.roster" for your fellow students. Capture your copy to a log file, download, and print the contents of that message.

Turn In:
1. Paper printouts of messages uploaded and downloaded.
2. Uploaded electronic copy distributed via "class.roster."
3. FAXed copy sent to instructor.
Due Date: Saturday June 14, beginning of class.
Value: 10 points


Assignment #3

Description:
Send an E-mail message to and request a reply from someone on the Internet outside UNT, or access some Internet resource (gopher,www server, etc.) of interest to you. Write a one-paragraph summary of your findings and upload it to all the class participants plus instructor gknezek@jove.acs.unt.edu.

Turn In:
1. Printout of original mail message or request.
2. Printout of reply.
3. Electronic distribution of summary to class.
4. Printout of your received e-mail of your own summary.
Due Date:Saturday June 20 at the beginning of class.

Assignment #4

Description:
Critique at least three distance learning sessions on the Mind Extension University System or some other comparable satellite system. Write up a one-page summary and e-mail to your fellow class members plus gknezek@jove.acs.unt.edu.

Turn In:
1. Printout of critique.
2. Electronic copy sent to instructor and class.
Due Date: Saturday June 28 at the beginning of class.
Value: 10 Points


Assignment #5

Description:
Take part in a video exchange via SSTV, CU-SEE Me or some approved medium. Make a cassette recording and prepare a one-page summary of the session. Include in the summary an overview of the session (subject, participants, location, etc.) as well as your reaction to (opinions of) this form of telecommunications medium. E-mail your summary to class.roster and gknezek@jove.acs.unt.edu for fellow participants to read.

Write a brief comparison of this system to the one you viewed for assignment 4. E-mail your comparison to all and a printed copy to your instructor.

Turn In:
1. Cassette recording of the exchange (2 pts.).
2. Written summary (5 pts.).
3. E-mail to classmates (3 pts.).
Due Date: Saturday June 28 at the beginning of class.
