Bonus Point Opportunities

CECS 4100 (sections .005 and .007)
Fall
2005
  • Periodically, additional bonus point opportunities will be announced in class. These opportunities will be posted here when/if appropriate.
  • If a deadline is midnight, it is assumed that you are emailing it and the time/date stamp on your email will be used as the "postmark" to determine if it is on time.
  • Bonus Points should be emailed to Theresa at theresa@unt.edu

  •
#1 For half of a bonus point:  Correctly identify at least half of the people (yourself and the instructor included) on the page of photos without names for your class. If you correctly identify 100% of the people in the photos, you get one whole bonus point. The photos will be on our class web page. The list of all names will be handed out in class one day (you have to be there on that day) and you will be given time in class to complete the page.
This Bonus Point Opportunity expires on whatever day I hand out the list in class. You only get one attempt at this one.
#2 For half of a bonus point: Keep our class web page accurate and keep me honest. Be the first to point out an error (typographical error, bad link, erroneous information, etc.) in our class web pages. Email me at theresa@unt.edu. Be sure to give the URL of the page, plus a thorough description of the problem, plus your first and last name and which section you're in.
This Bonus Point Opportunity expires at midnight, Wednesday, December 7, 2005. (NOTE:  You can accumulate as many of these as possible...I need all the help I can get.)
#3 For two bonus points: The abacus is considered one of the first "computers" created by humans. Though it has no mechanical parts, it is a device used by humans to make computing faster. Learn how to use an abacus to count, to add, and to subtract. Make a 5 minute appointment with Miss Overall to demonstrate how to solve these problems on an abacus: 3+4, 9+2, 21+5, 36+8, 159+63, 12-6, 89-4, and 477-68. Miss Overall has a Chinese abacus in her office that you can use. A fun website that can help you learn about all types of abacuses (abaci?) is located at: http://www.ee.ryerson.ca:8080/~elf/abacus/
This Bonus Point Opportunity expires at midnight, Wednesday, December 7, 2005.
#4 For half of a bonus point:  Help keep our class resources pages up-to-date and useful. If you find a valuable resource that should be added to any of our pages, send an email with a 1-2 sentence description, the URL, and the web page (and category if appropriate) in which you think it belongs (use the categories that already exist on the pages). If I agree that it's valuable (this is totally subjective), you will get the half point.
This Bonus Point Opportunity expires at midnight, Wednesday, December 7, 2005. You may earn a maximum of 3 points (6 accepted resources) in this category.
